What Does Pride Mean To You?

Happy Pride Month from After Dark Essentials! Around here, we believe love is love and what you do in the bedroom (or bathroom, or closet, or hotel elevator, wherever) is between you and whomever you’re sharing that magical moment with.

That’s why we’re hoping you take the time throughout the month of June to revel in all that you are — to be truly proud of your inner truth. There are a lot of ways to show that pride in today’s world. It comes in a variety of shades — a rainbow, if you will indulge us for a moment. What the truth looks like for one person may not be the same for others. That’s what makes life such a rich tapestry of colors!

We live in a world where coming out of the closet is a viable option for so, so many. But not everyone wants to be out. That’s okay! You do you. That’s what we’re talking about. Pride is about coming to terms with who you really are — whatever that may look like to you. There’s no one right way to be a member of the LGBTQIA community. There’s just whatever way is right for YOU.

If you want to dress up in your Pride Parade Best and hit the town for the whole world to see — we support that. More of a stay at home with your boo thang and stream Call Me By Your Name, instead? We’re down for that, too. Not interested in adhering to either of those gay stereotypes? Show it off, boo. We’re all about you doing you.

Because life is far too short and too hard to be anything but yourself. It takes many of us our entire lives to learn who that person inside really, truly is. To be able to look yourself in the mirror, face the facts about what’s staring back at you, and then growing to be proud of that reflection? That takes a level of maturity many full-grown adults don’t possess. That’s worth celebrating. That’s worth taking to the streets with music and laughter and dance. That’s worth letting your flag fly in whatever capacity you wish.

So that’s why we want to know — what does PRIDE mean to you? What does it LOOK like? Let us know YOUR thoughts in the comments below. Happy Pride!
